India is home to an incredible diversity of both wild and cultivated crops. Diversity is one of the main characteristics of nature and also the very basis of ecological stability. Diverse ecosystems give rise to diverse life forms and diverse cultures and this forms the basis of sustainability. With the advent of the green revolution, the emphasis has largely shifted to the increase in yield - as a consequence, a small number of seed varieties selected for their capacity to give high yields in response to the application of high doses of fertilizers are being promoted. This has seriously eroded the diversity of local varieties. This displacement has not only led to loss of diversity, but to several undesirable ecological consequences … (full text Biodiversity).

Education that works
Eklavya Education Foundation came into being in the year 1996 with a mission to revolutionize school education in India. It is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation established by young professionals, educators and businessmen to set up and run schools and teacher training colleges in a professional, modern and ethical manner.
Brief Introduction: In the year 1986 a company named Core Emballage Ltd formulated its investment philosophy, which simply put, is:
- The first rupee earned will be reinvested in productive assets (more machines and more sales people);
- The second rupee earned will go to the employees in terms of better salaries, working conditions, etc.;
- The third rupee earned will go to the shareholders;
- The fourth rupee earned will go back to the society, from where, in a way, all the four rupees are being earned.

Many suggestions were put forward some believed that the fourth rupee should go into building an orphanage, aid for drought and relief fund, building a temple etc., but the way to spend this sum was not found. This site has been constructed as an on line resource for the book: The People’s Peace Process in Northern Ireland: Many important lessons have come out of the negotiations for the Belfast Agreement. This book explains how public opinion polls were used in support of the Northern Ireland peace process. Significantly, it was the politicians who decided the questions so that they could map out areas of compromise and common ground that their supporters would accept. This book explains how the work was done so that others can apply the benefits of this experience to their own peace building activities. - The book is available to provide up to date information on the latest peace polls and copies of questionnaires and statistical reports as downloads. - Imagine if the children in your life didn’t have someone to tuck them in at night, to read them stories, or to play with them. How sad and lonely would they be? Organizer of Genocide Prevention Month, April 2009
The best way to stop genocide is to prevent it from happening. Caring citizens from around the world – including survivors of past genocides – are calling for an effective genocide prevention system. Organize or take part in Genocide Prevention Month in April 2009. Help us urge the international community create an effective system for preventing genocide and mass atrocity crimes. About: The Genocide Prevention Project, founded in the fall of 2008, seeks to build the public will to call on the international community to take meaningful actions when “early warning” indicators signal possible onset of mass-scale atrocity crimes, and to mobilize resources to avert or halt such ongoing crises and protect civilians from mass atrocity crimes.
The Genocide Prevention Project focuses on public education and advocacy. Our initiatives include the Mass Atrocity Crimes Watch List and Genocide Prevention Month in April 2009. The month is a 30-day commemoration of past genocide and mass atrocity crimes. We are working with genocide survivors and international survivor organizations to generate a civil society call for the implementation of prevention strategies. The Genocide Prevention Project is an initiative of Public Interest Projects, a 501(c)3 public charity in New York.
Staff:
- Jill Savitt, Executive Director
- Allison Johnson, International Campaign Manager
- Kate McNeece, Program Associate

- Ben Prochazka, National Organizer
The Genocide Prevention Project is the next venture of the team behind Dream for Darfur, the campaign that used the Olympics to urge the Chinese government to use its influence with the Sudanese regime to bring security to Darfur. Dream for Darfur significantly raised global awareness about China’s complicity in the genocide. An impact statement for Dream for Darfur is available at Dream for Darfur.org.
