Improving Services: The NHS in Fife is working to improve services with the involvement and support of the public, our partners in other NHS Boards, Fife Council and voluntary agencies (Community, Health Services, Hospitals, Resourcres, News and Events). We will continue to inform and consult local people at the earliest possible stages on developments … (about 1/2).

About 2/2: … As a large rural area with varied geography and several centres of population, there are particular challenges to meet the health needs of the people of Fife.

The strategic aim has been to develop, with our partners, particularly Fife Council, integrated services accessible in as many localities as possible. Services are being enhanced and the skill mix of staff is such that more problems can be dealt with without the need for onward referral. This work is led by the Community Health Partnerships.

Our emphasis in health promotion is on helping people to stop smoking and to create a culture which prevents people from starting, addressing the health problems of alcohol abuse and improving sexual health. Material on developments and services is available on the website nhsfife.scot.nhs.uk and associated links.

Work progresses on the General Hospitals and Maternity Services, a multi million
pound project to modernise acute services. Construction of the new St Andrews Community Hospital and Health Centre has now begun. Accommodation will be provided for three GP Practices and includes consulting space and group activity rooms for phlebotomy, nursing staff, speech and language therapists and voluntary organisations.
