Mission 2/2: What We Support: We are patriotic Americans committed to a US foreign policy that embodies our nation’s highest ideals.

We oppose the militarization of our foreign policy and its effects at home and abroad. We share the commitment to countering terrorism and weapons proliferation, but oppose the doctrine of unilateral military preemption. We believe that international cooperation and enforceable international law provide the greatest security for the United States and the world, and the greatest opportunity for people to live in free, healthy, and just societies.

Stop the War in Iraq:

We advocate fundamental changes to the US policy in Iraq that will bring our troops home safely and quickly WHILE promoting the creation of a sovereign and peaceful Iraq.

The wisest course for the US in the war in Iraq involves a prompt withdrawal of troops and an unequivocal declaration that the government has no intentions of maintaining a long-term military presence. The Administration should announce a plan to end the occupation that includes target dates for troop withdrawal as well as a plan to meet economic and military objectives. To serve both US and Iraq’s best interests, the US must transform its military occupation into an Iraqi-led, regionally-backed, and internationally supported effort to achieve stability and a representative government. A phased, total troop withdrawal in the near term is an essential first step.
