move a life forward

  • Whizz-Kidz is a charity that is all about giving disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play.
  • By providing them with mobility equipment, training, advice and life skills, we actually give them something much more important; the independence to be themselves. We make an immediate and life changing difference to their lives and their families.
  • ‘About us’ tells you all you need to know about the charity and its work with disabled children … (about us).

Our Approach: Whizz-Kidz is about giving disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play.

Children and young people are at the heart of our work. And what we do makes a powerful and life changing difference to their lives.

We focus on each disabled child’s individual needs, taking into account their clinical, social, educational and developmental needs. Being independent and in control of when and where you want to go takes young disabled people from isolation to inclusion and gives them the chance to enjoy a more active childhood and realise their true potential.

Disabled children have virtually no chance of getting a powered wheelchair on the NHS and the service we provide has an enormous impact on young people’s lives. We work with local NHS wheelchair services to joint fund mobility equipment where possible, but our goal is to build more strategic partnerships with the NHS so that we can pool our expertise and resources and help many more children.

We also campaign for children with disability to raise awareness of the importance of mobility. Our goal is to ensure the Government and the statutory services improve services so that every disabled child gets the right mobility equipment at the right time. Since Whizz-Kidz was set up in 1990 the charity has changed the lives of thousands of young disabled people and has become the UK’s leading children’s mobility charity.
