The Hunger Site was founded to focus the power of the Internet on a specific humanitarian need; the eradication of world hunger. Since its launch in June 1999, the site has established itself as a leader in online activism, helping to feed the world’s hungry and food insecure. On average, over 220,000 individuals from around the world visit the site each day to click the yellow “Click Here to Give – it’s FREE” button. Its grassroots popularity has been recognized with Web awards in the activism category — a Cool Site of the Year Award and a People’s Voice winner at the Webby Awards. Millennium Villages’ “Harvests of Development” report shows incredible progress in just the first three years, including:

  • ·  a threefold increase in average maize yields, & a 35% decrease in malnutrition for children under two,
  • ·  a sevenfold increase in bednet use, & people with malaria dropped from one in four to one in ten,
  • ·  80% of students are now receiving free school meals, boosting attendance and performance, and
  • ·  a threefold increase of access to safer water, and sevenfold increase in access to sanitation facilities.

These are incredible and direct results of the Millennium Villages project in just three years. Imagine what three more will do — or ten, or sixty! Your actions every day help make a tangible difference in the lives of these people.
