I AM WOMAN – EDUCATE ME
I am the woman from a village in Pakistan
Where they threw acid in my face because their honour was at stake
Battered, bullied and bruised – I suffered great pain
But the damage they have done has only fired my resolve
To never let them make MY honour, THEIR gain
I forced the courts to hear my case and took others like me
Caught in the vicious circle of male violence and frenzy
in trying to dehumanize us
My disfigured face has empowered me; the cries of my sisters
have given me strength in my own strength
I won’t be cowed down by cowardly acts
I have found my path and will never return to the fetters of slavery
I ask for no accolades for my bravery

Introduction/about: The New Civilization Network (NCN) is a meeting place for people of good will who are working on building a world that works for all of us. A world of increased quality of life, freedom, fun and inspiration for all. A world where the needs of all of humanity are met.

NCN is a place where you can find people to work with and where you can share your experiences with others.

NCN is not an organization. It is a database of people and a lot of facilities intended to help you find what you need and collaborate with others when appropriate.

This is an open space. Move in and talk about what you want to do. Find other who want to do similar things. Get busy. Use the virtual workgroup facilities if you need them.

This is an experiment in self-organization. Nobody will tell you what you’re supposed to do, but you will probably find support and friendly ears, and possibly you’ll find collaborators.

LSPC Celebrates 30 Years: This year, Legal Services for Prisoners with Children (LSPC) proudly celebrates 30 years of organizing against the prison industrial complex.

Over the past three decades, LSPC has seen the collapse and re-birth of the anti-prison movement while also witnessing the incredible growth and devastating effects of the prison system on people in prison, their loved ones and the broader community. Through it all, we have not only survived, but changed and grown to meet new challenges. We were born from the incredible vision of our beloved Founding Director, Ellen Barry, who started LSPC in 1978 with the help of two small grants from the Berkeley Law Foundation and the New York Public Interest Law Foundation. In the ensuing 30 years, we’ve expanded from a one-person legal services agency to a nationally-renowned organization of 15 people with a $1 million budget.

There are exercises in trying to make the principle come alive in our day-to-day lives. Everyone is welcome to participate.
