(also in the language of Pakistan)

Linked with Freshta Shikhany – Pakistan ex Afghanistan.

The aim of PACT programmes: The languages spoken on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border, the culture and traditions of the people, and the problems they are facing in their day-to-day lives, are all inter-related. People living on both sides of the border can help each other solve their problems. How can people’s standard of living improve? How can the conflicts which beset them, be solved in an amicable fashion? How can extremism and polarization of society – inimical to Islam – be replaced by Islamic moderation? … // … These are the answers which PACT programmes seek to address, in the words of ordinary members of society – the ones who have most to gain from solution of current problems, and most to lose from the perpetration of these problems. Heide Göttner-Abendroth – Germany.

The International Academy HAGIA was founded in 1986. It is dedicated to the exploration of the long history of matriarchal societies and cultures. About 2/2: … In terms of social and cultural structures, matriarchy research opens up a fundamentally different perspective than that offered by the societies many of us are living in. It makes us aware of the patterns in our own patriarchal societies and personal lifestyles; these can then be understood, confronted and changed. New ways of thinking and experience become possible, and visions that shed light on the still-hidden paths to the future can develop. The study of matriarchy can touch the person as a whole, and above all, it is meant to change society as a whole.

  • - “In 1990, she (Jacqueline Pitanguy, Brazil) founded CEPIA – Cidadania Estudo Pesquisa Informação Ação – a nongovernmental organization based in Rio de Janeiro, and has served as its director since then. CEPIA conducts research on gender relations and advocacy work mainly on violence against women, access to justice, and reproductive health. Since 1997 CEPIA has been the co-secretariat of the Civil Society Forum in the Americas, which aims to strengthen civil society, building common strategies among NGOs with different agendas … (source watch).
  • - Jacqueline Pitanguy says in an interview on CEPIA: … Cepia was one of the first NGOs to advocate for the establishment of centers to work with female victims of sexual abuse. We have been working since 1993 to build such centers and ensure that they are functioning properly. Today, they are a reality. One of our main accomplishments has been the creation of an intersection between the areas of violence and health by establishing bridges between the professionals in these sectors that do not usually communicate with each other. We have trained physicians, nurses, and health professionals working in emergency hospitals of Rio de Janeiro to give the initial care, such as immediately providing emergency contraception to female victims of sexual violence instead of referring them to maternal hospitals as they used to do. Today, Rio’s big emergency public hospitals have trained staff and posted signs made by Cepia and the Municipal Department of Health, indicating what should be done in such cases. We have also been working on the other side of the issues by training the police. Since 1996, Cepia has also been coordinating a course for medical students during which the students debate issues such as human rights, gender equality, and race discrimination. We also hold yearly workshops called the “International Program of Women’s Human Rights” to train men and women working in the fields of health and security … (full interview text).

And on their website in portugese: Nossa Missao: A Cepia é uma organização não governamental, sem fins lucrativos, voltada para a execução de projetos que contribuam para a ampliação e efetivação dos direitos humanos e o fortalecimento da cidadania especialmente dos grupos que, na história de nosso país, vêm sendo tradicionalmente excluídos de seu exercício.
