About 2/2: … For readers who simply want to have something to talk about over latte, let them go to other sites which specialize in Redundancy and Talktalk. That’s the staple of Current Events as taught in U.S. schools. Our emphasis is on Walktalk, discussion which leads, ideally, to confrontation with The Powers. For that, interaction with our readers will be blessed, if we can derive new models for moving ahead as a result of our ongoing dialogue.  Continue Reading…

In 2006, MIA averaged 1.1 million visitors per month, downloading 15.5 million files per month. This represents a 25% increase in visitors since 2005, and a 380% increase in visitors since 2000. In 2007, MIA has 62 active volunteers from 33 different countries. MIA contains the writings of 592 authors representing a complete spectrum of political, philosophical, and scientific thought, generally spanning the past 200 years. MIA contains these writings in 45 different languages, comprising a total size of over 53,000 documents and 29 GB of data, all created through the work of volunteers around the world … (full long Introduction text).

Who we are: We have built these archives from the ground up through the hard work of volunteers around the world. All our volunteers work in more or less complete autonomy, held together by our charter, bylaws, and cooperative work with one another. Volunteers come into the project to do work on what they like — there is no top down or centralized planning structure — so if we don’t have something in these archives, it is because no one has volunteered to contribute it! :) If there is a certain author or work you’re looking for that we do not have, volunteer to put that information that is important to you on the internet so it can be shared with others!   Continue Reading…

As an intrinsic dimension of the Centre’s commitment to focus on issues of discrimination and enhancing gender equality, members of the centre have been active in the fields of advocacy, whether through lobbying with and against the State and its policies, forming common platforms with other organizations and civil society institutions, and assisting in campaigns to bring about changes in public awareness.  The Centre has been actively developing many networks to carry forward these processes.  Over the last year, the faculty of the centre have been members of and initiators among networks of women’s organizations and women’s studies associations on a range of issues. Linked with Pinar Ilkkaracan – Turkey.

IASSCS was formed in July 1997 in Amsterdam, following a successful conference, “Beyond Boundaries: Sexuality Across Cultures”, jointly hosted by the Universities of Amsterdam and Chicago. This gathering was broadly concerned with the social and cultural study of sexuality, and drew together scholars from the disciplines of anthropology, history, sociology, health policy and cultural and gender studies.
